How can you effectively manage your time and get more results or outcomes from it? What are the best tips and strategies that are working well for me and for others too?
A few basics to start with,
Understand the difference between effective and efficient first
And then, understand the difference between urgent vs important next with the priority precedence
Follow the below matrix and plan your work items accordingly
If you wanted to do even more with an effective delegation, then follow the below matrix
Some more key tips and strategies:
Pareto principle or the 80/20 rule
The Pomodoro technique
Apart from the above key tips, some more other points to know are:
- Plan ahead and plan properly (also, try to follow OARR[Outcome-Agenda-Roles-Rules] for your meetings and see the difference)
- Try to have a clear focus (and know yourself first when you are having more focussed time block in your workday schedule)
- Have a dynamic todo list (and you can use whichever tool works best for you or a simple notepad is my favorite even today)
- Now, focus on high-value items (as explained above in the Pareto principle)
- Try to minimize interruptions and multi-tasking (and plan yourself, and then inform other stakeholders or team members by having the latest updated calendar and don't hesitate to keep the do-not-disturb sign for your status too)
- Try to delegate things (and train others in your team and bring others up to speed)
- Try to have 20 minutes or 45 minutes meetings (so that, you get time buffer to come back to stay even more focussed and act on things immediately for the quicker action items, etc)
- Learn to say "NO" (if any meetings are completely irrelevant for you)
- At last, doing less is better sometimes... Slowing down gives you back the energy that is required later!
